Licensure Application Process
Idaho law requires the licensure of all persons who practice or offer to practice as a
social worker in the State of Idaho. Licensure is available through both endorsement and
examination, and is issued for Bachelor Social Work, Master Social Work, and
Clinical Social Work.
All applicants for Social Work licensure under the Licensing Act must meet the minimum qualifications set forth below:
Each applicant must be of good moral character. "Good moral character" is defined by the board as that behavior exhibited on the part of an applicant which is in conformity with the Social Work Code of Professional Conduct and within the limits of state law.
Each applicant must submit a complete Application for Licensure to the Board
Each applicant must meet the educational requirements. Educational requirements must be verified by submission of official
Each applicant must successfully pass the required examination.
Certain levels of licensure may also require supervised practical experience.
The practice of Social Work and the areas of required knowledge for each level of licensure, as well as the supervised experience requirements are defined under Rule 201.
CLINICAL LICENSURE
Once licensed as a Master's Level Social Worker, you are eligible to begin the process toward licensure for Clinical Social Worker. To obtain Clinical Licensure you must be on record as receiving formal supervision. If you wish to begin the process toward clinical licensure, complete Supervision & Plan application and return it to the Board of Social Work Examiners.
If your supervision plan is already on record and you wish to add a secondary supervisor & plan, complete and submit the Secondary Supervisor & Plan application.

CREDIT FOR SUPERVISION CANNOT BEGIN UNTIL THE COMPLETED
APPLICATION AND SUPPORTING MATERIAL HAS BEEN RECEIVED.
Effective January 1, 2007, Idaho licensed social workers shall be registered with the Board in order to provide postgraduate supervision for those individuals pursuing licensure in Idaho as a clinical social worker.
